OBJECTIVE:    This course will build on basic principles of biochemistry by focusing on metabolic processes.  The processes undergone by various types of biological molecules will be covered in depth and will include topics in bioenergetics and regulation.

Problems from the Student Companion are provided as supplements to the lecture materials.  These will not be formally graded but material from these assignments will be considered fair game for exams.  Additional problems are available through sites on the World Wide Web and can be accessed through the course web page.

Grading Exams:

There will be two (2) midterm exams given during the quarter. Each will be worth 100 points.  No make up exams will be given.

The final will be given at 8:00 am on Friday December 10th.  The final will be worth 150 points and is comprehensive for the quarter.  Approximately one-third of the material will be from lectures not incorporated on previous midterm exams.

Letter grades will be assigned based according to the following point scale:
        A: 310-350;  B: 270-309;  C: 230-269 ;  D: 190-229;  F: <190
