Freshman Curriculum

The Department of Psychology offers a major leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree.  The Bachelor of Arts degree may be appropriate for students seeking (1) a general liberal arts degree; (2) paraprofessional employment; (3) preparation for graduate study in psychology.  These degrees may be earned in eight semesters if students average 16 hours per semester.

Honors Program in Psychology: Requirements for admission are: (1) completion of a minimum of 30 s.h. at YSU with a minimum GPA of 3.4; (2) completion of
PSYCH 1560, 2617 and 2618, preferably by the end of the sophomore year, with a minimum GPA of 3.50.  Eligible students should consult an advisor and chair of Honors Committee for the application and further information.

Bachelor of Arts-Psychology

38 Hours:

A. PSYCH. 1560 (General); 2617 & 2618 (Research Methods and Statistics 1 and  2)

B. At least one course must be taken from each of the following areas: (1) Clinical:
     PSYCH 3702 or 3775. 
(2) Social/Developmental: PSYCH 3700 or 3755 or 3756 or 3757 or 3758. 
(3)  Learning/Cognition: PSYCH 3705 or 3761 or 3760. 
(4)  Physiological: PSYCH 3728 or 4810

C. Two laboratories attached to any psychology course.

D. Capstone course PSYCH 4890 or 4891H or 4895.

E. An additional 9 hours in courses applicable to the psychology major, excluding 3770,3790, 3785H.

F. The remaining 3 hours in coursework may be taken in any course applicable to the major – 38 s.h.
