PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT ADVISEMENT SHEET

Bachelor of Arts Degree

Psychology courses required - 38 Semester Hours. Total of 124 SH needed for graduation, 60 of the 124 hours must be at 2600 level or above, and 48 of the 124 hours must be at the 3700 level or above.

A. All students must complete 1560 (General); 2617 and 2618 (Research Methods & Statistics 1 and 2); and 4890 (Senior Thesis) or 4891H (Honor's Thesis) or 4895 (Capstone Course). 12 SH These courses should be completed within the first 60 hours.

B. All students must complete at least one course from each of the following core areas of psychology. 12 SH

1.      Social/Developmental: 3700 (Social Psychology) or 3755 (Child Development) or 3756 (Adolescent Development) or 3757 (Adult) or 3758 (Lifespan).

2.      Clinical: 3702 (Abnormal Psychology) or 3775 (Personality).

3.      Learning/Cognition: 3705 (Psychology of Learning) or 3761 and 3761L (Cognition and Cognition Lab) or 3760 (Perception).

4.      Physiological/Psychophysiology: 3728 (Physiological Psychology) or 4810 (Psychophysiology and Behavioral Medicine)

C. All students must complete at least two Laboratories from the Psychology courses that offer Laboratories. 2 SH

D. An additional 9 SH must be taken in courses applicable to the major excluding 3770 (Individual Study), 3785H (Honors Seminar in Psychology) and 3790 (Field Work in Psychology).

E. The remaining 3 SH of coursework may be taken in any course applicable to the major.

F. In addition to the major requirements, all majors must also meet the following requirements.

1.      An approved minor of at least 18 SH. See Undergraduate Bulletin for a list of approved minors.

2.      The General Education Requirements

a.         Two Writing Intensive Courses

b.         One Oral Intensive Course

c.         Two Critical Thinking Courses

d.        Demonstrate Foreign Language Proficiency
