This major is designed to prepare students to directly enter the workforce in the public sector, pursue a master of public administration, and is useful for careers in the non-profit sector.

Professional training of public servants contributes to the fulfillment of the Mission of Youngstown State University, which states that the "University and public service are seen, not only as interrelated, but also as fundamental to endeavors both within and outside the University."

PRE-LAW

Pre-Law advisement is available at the beginning of the student's college study to acquaint  her/him with the various fields of legal practice which require specialized undergraduate study, and in his/her junior year to arrange for law school entrance examination and interviews.

There are no prescribed majors for the pre-law major, or the combined major in social studies. Undergraduate courses may be a foundation for a legal specialty: e.g., accounting for tax law, engineering for patent law, economics and political science for government service. Whatever her/his major, the pre-law student's basic concern is the development of his/her powers for rigorous analysis and clarity of expression.

Law school admission standards require a bachelor's degree, and accumulative point average of at least 3.2, and placement above the 70th percentile in the Law School Admission Test.
