Dear Math Major,

      On 15 August 2000, I became the chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.Since then I have been learning my new responsibilities as chairman and I have gotten to know this department a lot better. Youngstown State University has an outstanding mathematics department!I am so impressed with the excellent students who are majoring in mathematics and with the long list of accomplishments of both our faculty and students.Youngstown State’s Department of Mathematics shines in so many areas.For example, did you know that our performance on the 2000 COMAP International Mathematical Modeling Contest placed us in the top 20 in the world?Did you know that we have had more students make presentations and win awards for those presentations at the MAA/Pi Mu Epsilon Summer Math Fest than any other college or university in the country?It is great to be part of such a winning team.
