Youngstown State University

2003 Regional Conference

The Ohio Xi Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon at Youngstown State University is hosting their third annual regional Student Paper Meeting on February 22, 2003. The meeting will give undergraduate students the opportunity to present results of their projects and research, and to listen to topics that are of interest to other undergraduate students in our region. Any topic in undergraduate mathematics that is likely to be of interest to other undergraduate mathematics students is appropriate, be it in history, education, research, or anything between. We are scheduling the talks for 15 minutes each with five minutes between talks. Each student giving a talk should list a faculty advisor, primarily for ease of communication.

We are inviting all Pi Mu Epsilon Chapters that lie within two hours of Youngstown, as well as a number of other schools in the region that we know have interest in undergraduate student research. There is no intention to be selective, however, so if you know of someone who would like to attend, please do not hesitate to contact us so that we can invite them.

For this year, an REU section has been added to the program. We have eleven (11) students present to discuss summer REU experiences .

We are preparing a program for the meeting. Please register student talks by February 20, 2003.

In addition, we would also like to know of others who plan to attend, so that we will have adequate refreshments. We also would like the name of one organizing student from each school that we can contact if needed about arrangements. Please send this information to ysu-pme@math.ysu.edu with the subject heading "Planning to attend".

Due to the generosity of the Friends of the YSU Department of Mathematics and Statistics, there will be no registration fee for this event.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact Dr. Angela Spalsbury at angie@math.ysu.edu

We would like to thank the following organizations for sponsoring this event: YSU University Scholars, YSU Department of Mathematics, Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honorary Society, Papa John's Pizza, and Giant Eagle.
