The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University, together with teachers in the Youngstown area are holding training sessions on problem solving in mathematics for high school students. These sessions are free and open to any student interested in mathematics and problem solving. The goal is to improve the scores of local students on the American High School Mathematics Examination (AHSME), given each year to over 400,000 students nationwide. Ohio schools have exceptionally high participation in this examination, with over 20,000 students in the state taking the exam this past year.
