Mathematics Assistance Center

The Mathematics Assistance Center [MAC] is an academic support service which is integrated with the Department of Mathematics & Statistics. Its mission is to assist YSU students in the strengthening of the fundamental mathematics skills which are necessary for success in the study of mathematics and to provide resource materials for independent study.

 The staff of the Mathematics Assistance Center includes one full-time coordinator, one part-time assistant to the coordnator, graduate assistants, undergraduate tutors, and student receptionists. The MAC operates on a walk-in basis; no appointment is necessary.

 Services include providing tutorial assistance to any student currently enrolled in one or more mathematics courses served by the MAC (tutorial assistance is limited to these courses). Also, for any YSU student, the MAC provides computer-assisted instruction, video-assisted instruction, answer/solutions manuals, reference materials and mathematics course handouts. Workshops are provided as needed and as resources permit.

The MAC, located in Cushwa Hall Room 3090, maintains the following business hours:

 

Fall and Spring Semesters

Monday through Thursday
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Friday
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM


Summer Semester

Call for hours.

 

For some students, the Mathematics Assistance Center provides an opportunity for on-campus employment. To be eligible you must be a full-time student in good academic standing and as a minimum, be enrolled in Math 1572 for the semester in which employment is desired. By working in the MAC you will be earning money to help pay for your education, sharpening your mathematical skills, making new friends, enhancing your resume, etc. Also, student employees are permitted to register for classes before other students.
