The Historic Preservation Program--Course Overview

Historic Preservation specialists encourage the renovation and re-use of America's "built environment"-- buildings and bridges, farms and factories, battlefields and business districts, even entire neighborhoods. Professionals in this growing field find work with consulting firms, or with local, state or national preservation groups, museums or government agencies.

Since 1993 the History Department at Youngstown State has offered courses in Historic Preservation. Classes emphasize direct experience in real-world preservation tasks:

Students completing the full sequence receive a "Certificate in Historic Preservation."
Undergraduates may earn the Certificate as part of a History Major, or as a Minor supplementing work in a related field such as Art History, Anthropology, Geography, or Engineering. Graduate students earn the Certificate as part of a Masters in History.

Part-time and full--time students welcome

Financial aid available, including
$2000 undergraduate scholarships for all students entering with 25+ ACT score.
