Oral History Collection--How Do I Find What I Need?
In 2001, Maag Library spearheaded the effort to place all of the YSU Oral History Collection transcripts on-line. The Digital Oral History Collection is an invaluable resource for researchers anywhere in the world with internet access. In 2002, the Digital Oral History Collection received an honorable mention for an Award of Achievement in the IT/Internet Resources category by Northern Ohio Live! magazine.You may search Maagnet for oral histories by author, title, call number and subject. Maagnet terminals are available in the Reference room and throughout Maag Library. You may also access Maagnet remotely with a computer and a modem.
Begin all searches from the main menu screen that reads:

MAAGNET
AUTHOR : Author may be listed as either the interviewee or interviewer.
- Select: A (Author)
- Type: lastname, firstname
- Example: Smith, Mary Elizabeth
TITLE:
- Select: T (Title)
- Type as much of the title as you know, omitting any leading articles (a, an or the.)
- Example: vietnam war experience
CALL NUMBER:
- All oral histories are assigned call numbers which begin "oral history" followed by a four digit number.
- Example: oral history 0101
- Select: M (Numeric Indexes)
- Select: F (Local Call No.)
- Type: oral history
- Example: oral history 0004
SUBJECT: To find oral histories on a particular subject, first produce a numerical list of all oral histories by searching the numeric index: When the search is complete and a numerical list is on the screen, you may then limit by subject.
- Select: M (Numeric Indexes)
- Select: F (Local Call No.)
- Type: oral history
** If you do not know the appropriate subject heading for your topic, consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings or ask a librarian.
- Select: L (Limit)
- Select: S (Subject)
- **Type desired subject heading
- Example: steel industry and trade
- Select: F (Find)
