This page is primarily for communication between the Program Coordinators, Doug Faires and Tom Reardon, and the participants in the program. You can find out about the YSU program at YSU AHSME Training Program. Our program involves the training of Youngstown area students for a variety of mathematical competitions from Middle School to High School. An outstanding group of faculty from the University and local schools volunteer their time and expertise to work with students each Saturday morning from the beginning of November until February. They are joined by students from our University Scholars program. The Scholars help with the solution to the problems and are also available to provide general guidance on what is is like to make the transition from high school to University.
If you are a middle school or high school student and would like to try us out, just stop in at Schwebel Auditorium on Saturday morning at 10:00. We will be having Sessions every Saturday until February. (With the exception of November 28, December 19 and 26, and January 2.) You will find 100 or so other students who have decided or discovered that "being smart is cool". Parents are also welcome to observe and/or participate.
To learn more about the AHSME and the other mathematics contests in the United States and Canada, take a look at the the national contest website of Walter Mientka, the national directory of the contests.
If you have any question that you think we can answer, please send them to us at the e-mail address AHSME@math.ysu.edu . We will be posting more information here, including the problems we are working on, as time goes on. I can always be reached at faires@math.ysu.edu .
If for some reason we missed you in our registration process, or if you would simply like to be on our e-mail list, please fill out the Registration Form and bring it to one of the Sessions or mail it to AHSME99, Department of Mathematics, Youngstown State University, Youngstown, OH 44555.
