New Online English PublicationTrey Strecker, vice president of the Indiana College English Association, has recently been named editor-in-chief of the new English Studies Forum, an online reincarnation of The Ball State University Forum. The electronic English Studies Forum <http://www.bsu.edu/shapps/english/cwp/index.htm> publishes innovative critical and creative writing. ESF currently seeks submissions for the following forums: "Image, Story, and Conversation" explores the ways that we imagine our world in archetypal patterns, three of which are image, story, and conversation. "The Postmodern Imagination and Beyond" asks "what are we imagining, and how?" The publication explores the postmodern imagination, as well as the postmodern understanding of the nature/role of imagination in contemporary literature and culture.
What is post-postmodernism? ESF welcomes critical studies and creative submissions, in literature and the other arts. Critical papers should conform to MLA style and include a bibliography, if appropriate. Upcoming forums will be devoted to Postcolonial Cultures, Hypercriticism, and Play. AAUP Report on Academic FreedomIn 2003, the AAUP released a report called "Academic Freedom and National Security in a Time of Crisis," a document assessing the relationships between academic freedom and increased emphasis on national security, the USA Patriot Act, and restrictions on information and entry into the United States after the attacks of September 11, 2001.The report and an executive summary are available on the AAUP web site at <http://www.aaup.org/statements/REPORTS/911report.htm>. According to AAUP Special Committee Chair Robert M. O'Neil, "The central premise of the report is that freedom of inquiry and the open exchange of ideas are crucial to the nation's security, and that measures to ensure the nation's safety against terrorism should therefore be implemented with no greater restraint on our liberties than is necessary."
