CEA Executive Board Meetings at April 2003 Conference
The CEA Executive Board meetings at the April 2003 meeting start on April 2, one day before the general conference begins.

The board committee meetings begin at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2.  The Ongoing Concerns committee meets in the Skyway room at 3:30 p.m..  The Publications Committee meets in the Pier room at 3:30 p.m.  The Executive Committee meets in the Bayboro room at 5:00 p.m.  The full board meets at 8:00 p.m. in the Harbor View room.

On Thursday, April 3, the Board meets for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in Harbor View, with the board meeting to follow.  Registration for the general conference begins from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on April 2 and continues at noon on April 3; sessions for the general conference begin at 2:00 p.m. on April 3.

Robert Hacke Scholar-Teacher Award  Deadline for Applying for 2004 Award:  November 15, 2003

What Is the Award?
CEA is accepting applications for the annual Robert Hacke Scholar-Teacher Award. The award provides $500 to help support a CEA junior teacher who is involved in a scholarly or pedagogical project related to English studies. The recipient of the $500 award will be announced at the annual CEA meeting in April. The grant will begin May 1, 2004.

Who Can Apply?
Those persons who are adjuncts or who hold the rank of instructor or assistant professor in a post-secondary institution, including community colleges, and who are members of the CEA at the time of application are eligible to submit project proposals.

When Is the Deadline and How Does One Apply?
Applicants must provide to the evaluating committee through the office of the Executive Director the following documentation by November 15, 2003:

1.  A detailed rationale (maximum of five pages) for the project, including title, purpose and goals, methodology, proposed results, and work schedule.
2.  A complete vita.
3.  Three letters of recommendation, including at least one from a CEA member.
The recipient will be expected to attend the annual spring meeting to receive the award. By March 15, 2005, the recipient will submit a report on the progress of his or her project to the Executive Director, who will present it to the Board of Directors at their spring meeting.  Reports of previous award winners are online at <http://www.as.ysu.edu/~english/cea/hacke_2002_reports.html>.

The Robert Hacke Award is available every year on a similar schedule, so pass the information along to your junior colleagues. Robert Hacke served as Executive Secretary of the CEA from 1978 to 1981. The award honors his commitment to the profession and CEA.

Lee Martin (left), Ohio State University, accepts CEAO's Nancy Dasher AwardThe Nancy Dasher Award, one of the most prestigious awards given by the College English Association of Ohio, "each year recognizes a publication by a faculty member from a CEAO-member department in one of three areas:  literary scholarship, creative writing, and professional and pedagogical issues."  CEAO, the College English Association's Ohio affiliate, met simultaneously with CEA at the Cincinnati conference.

Association of Advisors of English
The Association of Advisors of English, a new association that focuses on advising English majors and other issues critical to the profession, is now a reality.  As some of you may recall, the founders of the association have made presentations at recent CEA conferences.  The AAE newsletter and membership form are available at the following link: http://www.as.ysu.edu/~english/cea/AAEnewsletter2.PDF.
