Economics Club

 
 

Economics is a field that plays an important role in a variety of occupations. Members are offered the opportunity to network with local business or community leaders, YSU faculty and other leaders. The club in involved in many activities. Most club events will include speakers from banks, corporations, policymakers and faculty, which will give students valuable insights into different career options and a chance to meet professional economists. 


This Semester's Speakers and Activities:

Officer and Potential Club Member Meeting
Wednesday, September 5; Economic Department (3rd floor DeBartolo)

At this meeting, the officers will delegate duties and get introduced to the meetings and activities planned for the semester. This would be a good time for interested students to experience the club and get a chance to help.

 Field Trip: Federal Reserve of Cleveland
Thursday, September, 20

This trip will help students gain insight on how the Federal Reserve manages money and the interest rate as well as get a guided tour through the history of the institution.

Julie works for the Youngstown Business Incubator as Chief Development Officer. She was just appointed to her new position, was the governor's development person for the area until the Republicans lost the last election. She graduated YSU with a Business Degree.

 Speaker: Joe Carson
Tuesday, October 23; Cafaro Suite, Williamson Hall (5th floor)

Joe Carson joined Alliance Capital in 2001. He oversees Alliance Fixed Income’s economic analysis team and has primary responsibility for the economic and interest-rate analysis of the United States. Mr. Carson has worked in government, industry and finance for more than 25 years. In his most recent role, he was Chief Economist of the Americas for UBS Warburg, where he was primarily responsible for forecasting the  US economy and interest rates. Along with several other economic positions.

 Speaker:  Jim Melfi
Wednesday, November 14th; Cope Suite, Williamson Hall (5th floor)

Jim is the Mayor of Girard and graduated YSU with a degree in Economics.  Before he was elected Mayor in 2000, Jim Melfi worked in business around the Youngstown area.  Jim will be speaking about his experience at YSU, his role is the economy and his current position as Mayor. 

 Speaker: Chris Forde
Wednesday, December 5; Cope Suite, Williamson Hall (5th floor)

Chris graduated from YSU with a BSBA in Economics two years ago. He currently holds a position as Associate Brand Manager, Health & Beauty Care on the Corporate Brands team for Giant Eagle, Inc. He is also a first-year part-time MBA student at Carnegie Mellon University

 All meetings begin at 3:30pm with light refreshments being served
