2009-2010 Events

• First Meeting of the year: Thursday, September 10th at 5:00pm in Room 2008 in Moser Hall

• YSU ACS Student Chapter Fall Picnic on Sept. 19, 2009 from 5:30 to 10:30pm at Edgewood Pavilion at Boardman Park

• The 2nd ACS Meeting of the semester is taking place Thursday, September 24th 5:00 pm Moser, Room 2008

Guest Speaker Erin Schuler (YSU graduate) will be speaking about her experiences in graduate school at Emory University.  Come ask questions dealing with graduate Chemistry study and the life of a graduate student.

2008 - 09 Accomplishments/Events:

• Represented STEM at the Homecoming Tailgate
• Participated in an ACS Penn-Ohio Border chapter seminar regarding the chemistry of Sherlock Holmes
• Donated clothing to a child in need during the holiday season5 shirts, 2 pairs of pants and a pair of shoes were donated to a child picked from the Giving Tree
• Held a holiday party for all members
• Donated $396.95 worth of food to the Second Harvest Foodbank
• Provided lightly used lab coats to students through an orphaned lab coat fund-raiser
• Visited a recycling sorting facility in North Lima to learn about the processing of plastics
• Represented our group at the STEM Organizational Fair
• Judged the Neal Middle School Science Fair
• Participated in an ACS Penn-Ohio Border chapter seminar presented by YSU Chemistry Professor Clovis Linkous on Hydrogen Energy
• Judged the Lake to River Science Fair
• Volunteered to supervise experimental procedures for the Women of Science day
• Presented a speech about the chemical aspects of plastics at Quest
• Presented research at the Duquesne ACS Conference
• Represented our organization and our support of Green Chemistry at Earth Day
• Holding a group picnic in April for faculty of Chemistry department and members of ACS Student Affiliates
• Participating in Bowl-a-rama to donate money for cancer research
• Designed and sold T-shirts that advertised chemistry
