Department
Herbarium
Dr. Carl Chuey developed the Youngstown State University herbarium in
1967 with 200 specimens. Along with teaching in the department, he is
the herbarium curator. To date the herbarium contains over 71,300
specimens making it the fourth largest in the state of Ohio.
Greenhouse
A state-of-the-art greenhouse lies adjacent to the Ward Beecher Science
Hall. It contains three separate climatic zones including a simulated
tropical rain forest. Botanical research is carried out year-round in
the greenhouse.
Animal Care Facilities and Surgical
Suite
Animal care facilities and a surgical suite equipped with a
post-operative care facility is available for biomedical experiments
involving laboratory animals. A full-time veterinary technician ensures
the proper care and handling of rodent populations.
