Research Interests

Research in my lab focuses mainly on the synthesis and structural characterizations (via single
crystal & powder X-ray diffraction, and TEM) of inorganic crystalline solids.  Our primary objective is
twofold: (1) discovery (and subsequent structural/property characterizations) of novel materials through an
"exploratory" synthesis approach; and (2) elucidating crystal chemical properties of materials previously
reported, but not well-characterized.  Current projects fall into the following general areas:

• Nitride-Fluorides & Nitride-Oxide-Fluorides (often with target compositions derived from common oxides)
• Oxides (various systems)
• Collaborative Crystallography (involving single crystal structure determinations of
  

samples submitted by other groups)
