Registration Registration Packet for
Dear Colleague, Attached are three items to facilitate registration for this year’s College English Association Conference, held in San Antonio, TX: (1) The registration form (Word, pdf); (2) hotel information (Word, pdf) [update as of February 8, 2006: See the Hotel Information section below--the St. Anthony-Wyndham is fully booked, but rooms are available for the same price at the Crowne Plaza]; and (3) information on speakers, entertainments, and optional conference excursion (Word, pdf). Please see instructions for each below. (1) The Registration Form a. Paper Registration: Please fill out and mail the attached registration form (above) with your check—made out to the College English Association—to CEA Treasurer Joseph Pestino (contact information is on the form). The registration form comes in two parts on a single page: (i) fill out the top half, checking off all items that apply; (ii) the bottom half will be filled out by the treasurer as a verifying receipt, to be returned to you at the conference when you appear for registration at the St. Anthony-Wyndham Historic Hotel. The only check-off sum required is the registration fee itself, which entitles you to attendance at all sessions, including the Thursday plenary session (keynote speaker); the Thursday President’s Reception; the general CEA business meeting (Friday, April 7); and an optional Friday evening entertainment at the hotel (until all seats are filled). However, there is a separate fee schedule for optional listed meal events, the Women’s Connection Reception, and a local excursion tour, with a fee refund for any such event that fills up, so that you are encouraged to complete and submit promptly the registration form to the CEA Treasurer. b. Online registration, using CEA database. You will now have received an e-mail from Ann Hawkins, CEA President, with instructions for how to register online, if you prefer to use that method. We encourage you to do so. The online address is http://english.ttu.edu/cea/conftool, and instructions for registering online are at <http://www.as.ysu.edu/~english/cea/conf_2006_online_registration.html>.
(3) Information on Speakers, Entertainments, and Excursion Tour The third attachment (above) lists speakers, including a brief bio-bibliographical statement; a few lines on the President’s Forum and the Friday evening entertainment; and a description of the conference excursion tour to help you make informed choices, especially for those events involving the fee schedule on the registration form. (4) Travel Plans If you plan to travel by plane, you are encouraged to make reservations early in the hope of obtaining favorable rates. (5) CEA Membership All conference-goers are obliged to be CEA members. If you are presenting a paper at the conference or serving as a session chair, you will have submitted a membership fee to the CEA Treasurer. If you are planning to attend sessions, but not presenting, membership is also required. (6) The Conference Program The CEA’s 2006 program chair, 1st Vice-President Maurice O’Sullivan, Rollins College <mosullivan@rollins.edu>, has arranged a stimulating program on the conference theme, “Reading the Regions/Writing the Regions/Teaching the Regions,” along with a number of exciting specialty topics. The program schedule is posted on the CEA Archive web site in pdf format and is now final. We look forward to seeing you in San Antonio! With best wishes, Charles A. S. Ernst
