Research Interests:
Mechanistic studies on decarboxylase enzymes


Dr. Smiley is on professional leave for the 2006-07 academic year at The American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund. He is Program Officer for PRF Grant Proposals within Committees 1 and 4, covering enzyme chemistry, organic chemistry, "green chemistry," and other subjects (see www.acsprf.org).
He has also been invited to serve on a National Institutes of Health review panel that will consider grant applications for support from the Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS) Program.  The MBRS Program, funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, provides research funding to faculty members at minority-serving institutions.
