Drew Hirt is President and Senior Scientist of Materials
Research Laboratories, Inc. (MRL), in Struthers, Ohio, a
state-of-the-art laboratory for the study of materials related
problems. Over the last 30 years he has authored or coauthored over 50
scientific publications. His fields of expertise include (but are by
far not limited to) X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS/ESCA), ion
scattering spectroscopy (ISS), high-resolution scanning Auger
microscopy (SAM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission
electron microscopy (TEM), secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS)
and time-of-flight SIMS (ToFSIMS), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy
(EDS),
wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (WDS), infrared
spectroscopy/microscopy (IR/MIR/FTIR), ultraviolet/visible/near
infrared spectroscopy (UV/VIS/NIR), residual gas analysis (RGA),
metallography, light microscopy (LM), microtomy, gas chromatography
(GC), thermal analysis (DSC/DTA/TGA), physical testing
(tensile/shear/etc.) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).
